Arizona supporters of the Protect Arizona Now Initiative, congratulations on your outstanding work. But be warned. They know about it here in Mexico.

Yes, that’s right. On August 11th, 2004, in the Mexican Congress, Senator César Camacho took a swipe at the Protect Arizona Now Initiative and called on the Mexican Foreign Minister to be vigilant. Camacho said that the Initiative

"[O]penly discriminates against our fellow Mexicans, proposing the loss of basic social services in that state…" "discrimina abiertamente a nuestros connacionales, debido a que propone la pérdida de los servicios sociales básicos en ese estado de la Unión Americana." [Condena San Lázaro uso de gas pimienta, El Siglo de Torreón, August 12th, 2004]

Of course, Senator Camacho conveniently fails to point out that the Protect Arizona Now Initiative deals with illegal aliens — who have no right to be in Arizona in the first place.

Beware, Arizonans. Not only must you continue to fight your state’s political establishment, you must also be vigilant against the real possibility of Mexican government meddling to stop the Protect Arizona Now Initiative.

Ten years ago, California’s Proposition 187 ignited a firestorm of opposition in Mexico. Despite the fact that Prop 187 passed, the Mexican government pressured American politicians and helped to invalidate it.

So be warned. Be vigilant. But don’t throw in the towel, and don’t back down. You're in the right. Most Americans agree with you!
