No Matter How You Say It: "Happy Holidays" (Or "Merry Christmas" For Everyone But Americans)!

Look what Santa brought! Somebody called Alex Altman has just celebrated Christmas Eve by writing an article for Time Magazine blaming me and VDARE.COM for being "the leading proponent of the War on Christmas".

Of course, it’s just the War Against Christmas Deniers' 2008 tactic: trying to frighten off Establishment Conservative media Big Feet like Bill O'Reilly by alleging that the whole idea is tainted — what used to be called (when liberals were against it) "guilt by association".

I can’t answer Altthing right now because, well, it’s Christmas Eve and the family needs attention. But I am going to repost this letter Craig Nelsen, of ProjectUSA sent us on Christmas Eve, 2000

"Above is an entry: a photo of the Holiday Greeting board in front of the Main St Post Office in Queens.

"(Can you spot the missing "greeting"?)

"Merry Christmas! — Craig Nelsen."

Readers with good linguistic skills, honed by the experience of mass immigration bringing the world to their doorstep, will recognize that most of those signs say "Merry Christmas" in their respective languages. Navidad, Natale, Noel, and Jul all mean Christmas. (Kwanzaa has crept in at the bottom left. Aargh.)

It’s only what that famous resident of Queens, NY, Archie Bunker, called "regular Americans" who have to say "Happy Holidays!"

So much for the War Against Christmas Deniers.

(Can any ambassador to darkest Queens tell us what happened this year?)

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Many thanks to our readers and, particularly, to our heroic donors (especially to those who gave on Christmas Eve. Ho Ho!)

And to the person who put up that sign, we remind you that "VDARE says Merry Christmas and VDARE says the hell with it!"
