Ayn Rand’s books can be fairly difficult to plough through; this quote comes from about page 850 (!!!!$@#**) of Atlas Shrugged, but it looks like she understood the borders issue very well. Pity she couldn’t have put it earlier in the book.

AtlasShrugged“The only proper functions of a government are: the police, to protect you from criminals; the army, TO PROTECT YOU FROM FOREIGN INVADERS; and the courts, to protect your property and contracts from breaches or fraud by the others, to settle disputes by rational rules, according to objective law.“
