San Bernardino attacker Tafsheen Malik studied for two years at an Al Huda Islamic school in Pakistan. The school has a branch in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto. The founder of the Canadian school, Farhat Hashmi, was kicked out of Canada. A moderate Muslim activist, Raheel Raza, says these schools promote "hate."
As I write this, I am reminded that when the current mayor of Toronto, John Tory, was leader of the provincial Conservative party, he ran on a platform that called for public funding to be extended to religious schools — including Muslim ones. I don’t know it these particular schools would have qualified under that policy.
