Jesse Mossman’s letter A Reader Insists We Must Make Politicians Fear To Mouth The “Nation Of Immigrants” Lie
From: A Connecticut Reader
In his letter Jesse Mossman brings up a critical meme that the enemies of the historic American people keep pushing in every segment of our society, the "nation of immigrants" canard.
In the Michelle Malkin piece linked in the letter she notes:
President Obama heralded America as a "nation of immigrants" defined not by blood or birth, but by "fidelity to the shared values that we all hold so dear."While her article is good it lacked a quote that makes, really, all the difference:
"Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people — a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence."Concerning Dangers from Foreign Force and Influence, Independent Journal, October 31, 1787
John Jay in Federalist No. 2, wherein he describes Americans as a "band of brethren united to each other by the strongest ties."
