For anyone wanting the news about Sheriff Arpaio, the Arpaio website says the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office were cooperating with the Justice Dept. investigation, and were promised that this would not become political, or be sprung on them in the news. They felt betrayed.

At present, apparently they are meeting with Justice and both sides hope to avoid it becoming a court case.

By James Fulford writes: Of course, this is exactly like what’s happening in East Haven, and is being done by the same people. The Arpaio letter, addressed to Thomas Perez at the DOJ, can be found here: Re US vs MCSO et al, January 4, 2012. PDF

It starts

Mr. Perez:

This letter is in response to your December 15,2011 letter in which you set forth the Department of Justice’s “findings" of its investigation into alleged civil rights violations of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office ("MCSO"). Your letter specifically demanded that we inform you of whether the MCSO is interested in participating in constructive dialogue by the close of business on January 4, 2012. Sheriff Joseph M. Arpaio and the MCSO are certainly interested in participating in constructive dialogue, but constructive dialogue can only occur if the DOJ provides the facts and information on which it bases its findings. [More]

I doubt that the DOJ is really interested in negotiating in good faith — they have so much power and money, they don’t have to. And if the DOJ is interested in avoiding a court case, it’s because they want a consent decree. A consent decree is a way of blackmailing the Department Of Justice’s target into saying that they love Big Brother. See Abolishing America, cont'd: Consent Decree Coup, By Paul Craig Roberts.
