What a shocker. Not since the fall of the Berlin Wall has Europe seen such a moment. The top moment? Watching Wolverhampton, the hometown of Enoch Powell, voting 68-32 percent for Leave. True conservatives are, by nature, pessimistic and this one did not think that Little England would prevail over the London heavyweights. But they did.
I only wish that our Little England — Middle America — can summon up that same iron in the blood this fall.
Who knows? Maybe there will “always be an England.” For now, the ghost of Enoch Powell smiles over Wolverhampton.
