03/26/09 — A Michigan Reader Reports Arrogant, Incompetent H1-Bs

From: [Name Withheld]

A recent case in point shows how the junk food industry benefits from Third-World immigration.

While standing in line behind an obese mestizo woman and her equally obese teenage daughter at the Wal-Mart in White Plains, N.Y., I noticed their two shopping carts were loaded with the worst examples of junk food, including bottles of soda, Hostess Twinkies, Tostitos, Popsicles and loaves of white bread. After an extended discourse with the black cashier, who did not understand Spanish, I heard her tell them in the voice used to talk to a dog (loud and slow) that while $165 was covered by Food Stamps, they still owed about $6.00 for non-food items.

This Wal-Mart has a small grocery section filled with high calorie, high fat, and high sodium processed foods from the agribusiness conglomerates. There isn’t much of interest to a shopper concerned about health or quality, although Wal-Mart is the cheapest local source for bananas, raisins, skim milk, Kashi cereals, and canned wild Alaska salmon.

Wal-Mart customers in White Plains are overwhelmingly Hispanic and black. It’s usually difficult to detect when they pay with Food Stamps, which seems to have been the government’s main purpose in switching to a debit card from paper coupons. But clearly much of the food expenditure by "minorities" is paid for by the true minority — the taxpayers. It is an indirect subsidy to the junk food industry.

A Google search for "food stamps" "junk food" turns up more than 40,000 results, showing that many other people have noticed the link. One outraged citizen has even registered the domain foodstampfraud.org and posted an essay, in which he concludes:

"The food stamp program is nothing more than corporate socialism that takes money from the taxpayers to line the pockets of the junk food industry at the expense of the health of the children that actually need good wholesome nutritious food."
