Re: Steve Sailer’s Blog: Is Religion The Opiate Of The Rust Belt Masses?

Senator Barack Obama’s recent demeaning comments about small town Pennsylvania’s working class whites not only shows his contempt, but also a serious lack of understanding of our heritage and culture.

There is a reason why Pennsylvania is known as the Keystone State.

From the signing in Philadelphia of the Declaration of Independence, to the Battle of Gettysburg, to the coal miner’s strikes resulting in unionization and labor laws, to Pittsburgh’s steel that built the ships and tanks that won World War II, Pennsylvania has played an important role in the history and development of the United States.

Pennsylvanians are a deeply religious people which goes back to the colony’s founding by William Penn — a Quaker.

The first day of deer season is treated like a state holiday. Despite having only with only 12 million residents, Pennsylvania has the second largest number of registered guns after California.

God and guns are a part of Pennsylvania culture and it is not because we are "bitter."

Obama and the liberal elites need to understand that when globalization results in factories being sent overseas and Americans losing their jobs, when immigrants arrive both legally and illegally take American jobs and thereby change the culture of our hometowns, and when citizens can no longer afford the "American Dream," people get angry.

This is a logical result of having our way of life threatened by elitist policies.

Our bitterness, as Obama insensitively and incorrectly put it, is actually our natural fight or flight reaction to the policies imposed on us from out of touch Washington, D.C. bureaucrats.
