Re: Joe Guzzardi’s Column: "New LA Times Strategy: Taunt Readers; Urge Them to Leave Town"

At the University of Kansas, where I was a journalism student in the mid-1990s, an instructor arranged for a group lunch with an executive from the Times-Mirror Corporation, then the publisher of the LA Times.

I recall the honcho waxing victorious about "all the black and brown faces" he sees when he’s in the Times' newsroom, and how happy he is that affirmative action has made it all possible.

Even then, as a young man without a racist bone in my body, I sensed the unfairness of this, and the hypocrisy, coming from a fifty-something rich, established white male.

Hey! What about us 20-something white guys? Are we chopped liver?

Yes, apparently.
