Please comment on Ted Cruz (R-Texas) finally clarifying his weak immigration position. [Ted Cruz Seeks to Ban Illegal Immigrants in U.S. from Citizenship ,US News And World Report, By Rebekah Metzler, May 8, 2013
This amendment comes after his claim last week, questionable, at best, in my mind, that President Obama doesn’t want the amnesty bill to pass, (presumably to blame the GOP, looking toward the 2014 mid-terms).
I can’t imagine Obama wants this amnesty bill, in most any form, to fail (with the exception of welding shut the border and mass repatriation).
Cruz is calling for a bar on a path to citizenship: we know how that would turn out. US News And World Report reportes that "Cruz also filed amendments that he said would ..modernize, streamline and expand legal immigration" and that he said" America is a nation of immigrants, built by immigrants and we need to honor that heritage by fixing our broken immigration system, while upholding the rule of law and championing legal immigration."
By James Fulford writes: When I heard Ted Cruz talking about the bill in the markup, he said that he was trying to amend the bill — taking out the really bad stuff — so that the bill would pass the House. That’s the wrong attitude. In the meantime, Schumer was going on about the Statue of Liberty, and how we could never have immigrants ineligible for citizenship, because that would be un-American.
It’s amazing how both Senators are taking the position on citizenship for illegals that will do the most to preserve their own jobs as respectively a Democratic and a Republican Senator, and at the same time agreeing on residence for illegals which will lower the wages and endanger the jobs of everyone else in America.
