Re: Steve Sailer’s article Japanese Substitute Inventiveness for Immigration; NYT Shocked
From: Vincent Chiarello
In a recent Washington Post opinion blog, the columnist, Fred Hiatt, discussed Japan’s latest political scandal, which involved the resignation of Foreign Minister, Seiji Maehara. Mr. Maehara’s unpardonable sin was that he accepted campaign donations from a non-Japanese woman, which totalled about $2,400.
But Mr. Hiatt’s interest was focused differently: Japan’s "true scandal" was the nation’s unwillingness, " … to welcome immigration in larger numbers," which has led to a stagnant economy, plus other social ills. [PostPartisan — The real scandal in the resignation of Japan’s foreign minister, March 3, 2011]
Immigration, Mr. Hiatt is ever repeating, is the answer to Japan’s financial, political, and social problems. The departure of Maehara-San make the likelihood of changing that policy " … less likely than ever."
Mr Hiatt is, perhaps, a bit myopic: the Japanese, more so than any other country, believe that their nation is composed of people who are only Japanese, and whose history, traditions and culture are that of Japan and no other nation. If hardship is the result, then the Japanese will muddle through, but in the end, they will remain Japanese, and not hybrids thereof.
I await Mr. Hiatt’s next post. Surely, he will claim that the earthquake and tsunami were, clearly, God’s wrath on these most politically incorrect people.
