Well said! And there’s almost nothing further to add to James Kirkpatrick’s analysis because it says it all.
But just this … at university many years ago, I was acquainted briefly with two Objectivist libertarians. One conversation between them went like this.
Mutt: There is a slight problem with our avowal of the absolutist nature of property rights.I stopped taking libertarianism seriously after this exchange. I had already thrown my Marxist social science-inspired leftist lunacy overboard. I sure wasn’t going to substitute another lunacy for it. And thanks to Pat Buchanan et al., I saw that there can indeed be wisdom and virtue in politics.Jeff: How so?
Mutt: Well, would we allow two homosexuals to practice anal sex on their front lawn even when it is their absolute right to use their property as they see fit?
Jeff: Oh, Mutt, in a rationalist society no one would be doing that; so it’s a moot point.
