It looks like Ross Douthat is holding his nose and admitting that courting whites might have some merit in it. [The White Strategy Trump’s winning coalition and its weaknesses, By Ross Douthat, NYT, August 11, 2018]

Mr. Sailer himself has been on the case for years but so also has John Derbyshire. In a book published by VDARE.com Mr. Derbyshire notes:

The consequences were plain to see in last November’s election. The white working class, seeing nothing to hope for from either party’s presidential candidate, stayed home.

The interesting question here is why, in an open and democratic society, such a large quantity of disgruntlement has found no political expression.

Today’s Forgotten Men — The American White Working Class, January, 2013 (from my copy of the book From The Dissident Right, pp. 221-222)

Indeed, such a vast cohort of voters going unspoken for is an anomaly which requires explanation. The answer, of course, is that this cohort is made up of what the elites deem the great unwashed, the modern equivalent of an untouchable caste. And everyone knew whoever championed it would bring down on his head the unholy wrath of the priests of The Cathedral screaming “racist,” “fascist,” “White Supremacist.”

Yet while the pastel patriots of Conservatism, Inc. were penning the autopsy on the corpse of their movement and prescribing more dark skin, one Donald J. Trump was quietly trademarking the phrase “Make America Great Again.” And sure enough, the minute he got in the corner of this forgotten folk all the demons began their bleating of the required anathema and as we know those demons have not desisted to this day.

But the truth is that there are millions of Americans who wouldn’t know White Supremacy if it hit them over the head and they are eternally grateful that this man took up the cudgel and began to fight for them. Three years on we see that Rome wasn’t toppled in a day and though progress has been heartening it has also been slow and painful. But now that we know the electoral formula the question becomes can we seize our victory before we run out of white folks.
