Re:Tom Piatak’s article War on Christmas 2015: A Twelfth Night Roundup — Trench Warfare Continues, But Enemy Advancing
A Suburban Illinois Reader
Well, now that Christmas is over, I can uncover my ears and not hear “Happy Holidays” until next year. We’re fighting a losing battle with Christmas. Every commercial I watched on TV would have Christmas lights, Christmas trees, and everything Christmas. They’re more than happy to take your Christmas dollars but won’t say the phrase “Merry Christmas”. [See The Year Christmas Died, By Daniel Henninger, WSJ, December 23, 2015]Every time somebody would say to me “Happy Holidays!”I would ask what holiday? And I would get an answer something like this: Christmas and New Year.
Every time I was in the store or wherever I was and I heard somebody say “Happy Holidays” I would correct them and tell them it was OK to say Merry Christmas! And tell them it’s not against the law to say that…yet.
The media and corporate American have saturated the airwaves with so much “Happy Holidays” crap that normal Americans are buying into this. I have good American friends and vets who now use the Happy Holidays phrase without thinking. They tell me that they don’t want to offend anybody. Well, it offends me when I have to hear Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.
So in closing I say: “Merry Christmas!” And I don’t care who I piss off!
