From: An Anonymous Talk Radio Listener

Today a 2-pound box of Wel-Pict strawberries from Watsonville, CA costs 99 cents at a Chinese store in New York. Taking into account the retailer’s markup and the costs of packaging and transportation, along with fixed costs such as the farm’s real estate taxes and utilities, the labor cost to pick the 40-50 strawberries in the box must have been minuscule. Maybe it reflects that Indians from Guatemala will work for even less than Indians from southern Mexico, i.e., they will do the work that Mexicans won’t do.
