06/29/10 — An Arizona Reader Thinks Barack Obama’s Tin Ear Will Lead To Local Democrats Defeat

Re: Brenda Walker’s Blog: Escape From Arizona!

Can Arizona Republic reporter Daniel Gonzales, author of the hideous sob story cited by Walker in her blog about a family of illegal aliens who moved to Pennsylvania, be charged with aiding, abetting or harboring criminals? (Undocumented Couple Leave S.B. 1070 Behind, by Daniel Gonzales, Arizona Republic, June 27, 2010)

According to Federal Immigration and Nationality Act, Section 8 USC 1324 (a) (1)(A) (iv) (b) (iii):

"A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions."

I’m not a lawyer, but it is probable that Gonzales knows more about Marlen and Luis Rodriguez and the other sundry aliens in his story than he has revealed. Much of it might reveal the more brazen criminal activities like document fraud or identity theft Luis engaged in to get his jobs as a landscaper and dishwasher.

Did Gonzales "encourage" Rodriguez?

No one can know for sure. But we can say with certainty that Gonzales' "personal convictions" are in favor of illegal aliens.

How else could he write such a biased story filled with sympathetic portrayals of the Rodriguez family and all their illegal alien neighbors?

By Joe Guzzardi comments: Reader Ryan’s question is valid. If you wonder what the Arizona Republic thinks, contact information, including the telephone number for editor Ken Western is here. Maybe some enterprising lawyer will take up Ryan’s cause. At the least, editors and reporters at the Arizona Republic would be put on alert.
