Yes, indeed, Republicans are slow on the learning curve to think that a little pandering in Spanish will convince Latinos to vote for them. There must be some amnesia at work too, or they would remember the 1998 campaign of Dan Lungren to be governor of California. https://www.sfgate.com/cgibin/article.cgi?file=/examiner/archive/1998/10/15/NEWS13702.dtl
"Lungren just started ads on Spanish-language TV in Los Angeles, Fresno, Bakersfield and Sacramento. They highlight his sponsorship of the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which gave amnesty to millions of illegal residents." — San Francisco Examiner, 10/15/98
According to exit polls, Lungren got only 17% of the Hispanic vote in that election. https://www.intellectualcapital.com/issues/issue168/item1887.asp
Amazing — even whoring for amnesty is not enough. Isn’t there a lesson here somewhere?
In more cheerful news, I finally got my immigration website up and running, complete with its agenda of questionable humor, campaign finance reform, women’s rights and environmentalism. There are also book reviews and other material from local cronies. Well, it actually isn’t complete overall, though some topics are pretty thorough. Hey, I even have a link to the transcript of Peter Brimelow’s Booknotes interview — you don’t see that every day.
