03/20/09 — A Reader From Scotland Warns Of Social Costs Of "Foreigner-Perpetrated Crime"

A CA Reader Is Outraged Over Pelosi’s Reference To ICE Raids As "Un-American" While She Pledges To Halt Deportation Of Illegal Aliens; etc.

From: Glenn Began

On the evening of March 7th, Nancy Pelosi spoke before a crowd of immigrants and illegal aliens.

Choosing the rights of illegal immigrants over the rights of American citizens, Pelosi informed the crowd that ICE raids were "un-American" and should be stopped immediately.

This is a slap in the face to law enforcement and every border patrol agent who are trying to protect our border! Pelosi should be run out of town on a rail. What happened to "Defend and protect the constitution"!

To view the televised coverage of Pelosi’s speech, click here and puke. Highlights from the transcript of Pelsoi’s speech are excerpted below.

"…I want to join all of you in welcoming my colleague Congressman Gutierrez to San Francisco . As he said, he’s on a nationwide tour that goes on and on across the country, lobbying for and advocating for comprehensive immigration policy .

"And yes a fair policy for everyone to stop the raids. To stop the raids….

"…How then could America say it’s ok to send parents of children away? What value system is that? I think it’s un-American. I think it’s un-American…

"… Who in our country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?

It must be stopped. It must be stopped."

A Montana Reader Summarizes The Consequences Of India’s Independence

From: Tim McCoy

Re: "A Reader From India Opposes Ethnocentric Corruption, "Curry Smells" And "Slumdog" Label"

I’m sure that the population of India was much happier when the Brits ruled as I’m sure we will be when we teeter on Third-World status. I personally was thankful when your people sacrificed your welfare, coming to the U.S. to help reduce my shameful salary to a level to which you have made me accustomed.

Am I too acerbic?

McCoy, a retired programmer, wrote previously about the need for a political purge and about why Mexicans are always screaming about "racism" and "xenophobia" here and here.

A NY Reader, Fed Up With Her Local Diocese, Would Like To Walk Away But Can’t

From: Name Withheld (email her)

Re: "’spiritual Wickedness in High Places' — A Catholic Looks At His Post-American Bishops" By Matthew Richer

Good article. I relate completely although I still attend mass. I stopped contributing to the Diocese about four years ago (distrusting use of funds following the sexual predator scandals) and stopped contributing to my terrible parish about two years ago. I put up with an embarrassingly outrageous new pastor for four years (I can’t get into all the details right now). I stopped contributing to send a message, but then just gave up and switched to another parish.

I had to go in and explain Humane Vitae to the principal of the Catholic school my daughter attends — who unabashedly cheered on Obama during the campaign. I had to explain to her what the Pope declared were the priorities for Catholics in the voting booth. I also explained to her Obama’s position on school vouchers, but to no avail. She praises our new president in every other memo she sends home! I am fuming! I’m not sure if I’m more annoyed by the school being run by someone so un-Catholic or by someone so dumb!!

Anyway, I can’t leave the Church — but I want to. I’m in New York City — Brooklyn. And I think it is worse here than in Boston. I just feel that if I leave, this terrible church leadership will win — they will have successfully taken over my church! That angers me so much.

A Catholic Reader Excoriates VDARE.COM For Church’s Immigration Views

From: Dennis Nicholl

Re: "’spiritual Wickedness in High Places' — A Catholic Looks At His Post-American Bishops" By Matthew Richer

You managed to get a number of criticisms of the Catholic Church into one article.

I wouldn’t feel too flattered thet [sic] VDARE.COM published your article. VDARE.COM loves to bash the Catholic Church.

My personal favorite was a couple of months ago when VDARE.COM blamed the Pope for illegal immigration into America. Think about it. By the time Obama leaves office in 2013 we will have had 48 years of Protestant Presidents since the immigration Act of 1965 but VDARE.COM is blaming the Pope for immigration into the U.S. (Like he could stop it even if he wanted to.)[VDARE.com’s treatment of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI has been "fair and balanced" — we have always worried more about the political activities of the US Council Of Catholic Bishops.]

Why do you and VDARE.COM expect the Catholic Church to say about immigration? Imagine the outrage the media would have if the Church came out in favor of closed borders.

Continue to be a "useful idiot" to VDARE.COM. They can continue to make gratitious [sic] attacks on the Catholic Church with a Catholic writer doing the dirty work. VDARE.COM is probably pinching themselves thinking this is too good to be true.

Matthew Richer Replies: Thanks for writing. But my piece is most certainly not anti-Catholic simply because I did not take issue with any Catholic teachings. If I had space, I would have said that I accept most all of the Church’s teachings, including the most politically incorrect ones, like contraception.

Moreover, I wasn’t exposed to any Church teachings during my many years of Catholic school (most of the homosexual Jesuits I encountered in high school had something else on their mind). I only learned about Church teachings like Humanae Vitae on my own, after I graduated from a faithless Catholic college.

All I want of the Church is for them to drop the politics and focus on the faith. What’s so anti-Catholic about that?

I've received several nasty emails from self-described practicing Catholics today. However, my only response is to "turn the other cheek".
