21st Century French Politics Is Pretty Dull

French political upheavals used to be the most exciting to the sharpest international observers, such as Edmund Burke in Reflections on the Revolution in France and Karl Marx in The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte. But in the 21st century, more fun stuff happens in Britain and America than in France. From the New York Times:

Projections at the close of voting, which are generally reliable, showed Mr. Macron, a centrist, gaining 58.5 percent of the vote to Ms. Le Pen’s 41.5 percent. His victory was much narrower than in 2017, when the margin was 66.1 percent to 33.9 percent for Ms. Le Pen, but wider than appeared likely two weeks ago.
