"African-Americans", The Oscars, And PC

By James Fulford

03/03/2014

RT @RollingStone: #12YearsASlave’s #Oscar the first time a film by an African-American has won Best Picture in its entire 86-year history.

This tweet from Ezra Klein has received 343 retweets and a bunch or replies, most of them pointing out the director of 12 Years a Slave is not an American at all. Director Steve McQueen was born in England of Grenadian parents and is a citizen of the United Kingdom. He’s a actually a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

African-American is now the PC thing to say, and has, I believe, appeared incorrectly in news stories about blacks in Haiti,Canada and England.
