Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to Speak at Values Voter Summit

The Family Research Council is a social conservative organization, currently headed up by Tony Perkins, which hosts the annual Values Voter Summit, sheduled this week for September 14th to 16th. The group was originally founded by Focus on the Family’s James Dobson, and for a time was a part of Focus on the Family, but it’s now a separate organization.

So far as I know (correct me if I’m wrong) the Family Research Council has never publicly supported amnesty for illegal aliens. On the other hand, Focus on the Family recently jumped on the amnesty bandwagon. (See FOCUS ON THE FAMILY Needs Evangelicals’ Money — Don’t Give It To Them!)

I noticed that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (of SB 1070 fame) is scheduled to be one of the speakers at the Values Voter Summit. (See speakers here and schedule here). Here is what the Family Research Council website has to say about Jan Brewer:

If you looked up "backbone" in the dictionary, you might see a picture of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (R-Ariz.). In her three years as Janet Napolitano’s successor, Gov. Brewer has spent a lot of time in the spotlight for her unwavering stance on illegal immigration, the family, health care, and the economy. After standing up to President Obama and refusing to compromise on her no-nonsense approach, Jan Brewer became a conservative hero … FRC will welcome Gov. Brewer to the Values Voter Summit for the first time.

I think it’s a good sign that the Family Research Council has asked Jan Brewer to speak at the Values Voter Summit. It would be even better if the organization would actively campaign against amnesty. After all, protecting our border against invasion is an important family value.

If you'd like to encourage the Family Research Council in this, contact them here.

If you'd like to rebuke Focus on the Family for its unprincipled support of amnesty, go to my article on the topic here. The end of the article contains various means to contact the organization and explain why amnesty is a bad idea. And of course, don’t give Focus on the Family any money.
