Not all that many years ago, anthropologist Dienekes could overlay photos of European countries’ World Cup and other athletic squads to get a sense of what the indigenous people of each country look like (assuming you are talking about what vigorous young male athletes look like).
For example, compare Germany to Poland to see subtle differences. (Of course, the Eastern Europeans smile less when having their pictures taken, unlike, say, the Turks.)
Every country looks pretty handsome: that’s a side-effect of averaging ten to 24 jocks: individual lopsidedness gets averaged away.
I guess these photos are mostly from the 2002 World Cup and Dienekes put his graphic together in March 2006 in anticipation of the 2006 World Cup.
We shall never see their like again.
