Matt Drudge: Heeding his readers?
Since 9-45 AM this morning (presumably after the senior management checked in) the Drudge Report has been prominently featuring, center top and in red POLITICO: IMMIGRATION LAW WOULD SECURE DEM VICTORIES FOR GENERATION, ELECTORAL SHIFT...
This links to Politico’s Immigration reform could be bonanza for Democrats By Emily Schultheis posted 4/22/13 at 9-59 PM EDT. (In other words, 12 hours earlier.)
Politico happily opened
The immigration proposal pending in Congress would transform the nation’s political landscape for a generation or more — pumping as many as 11 million new Hispanic voters into the electorate a decade from now in ways that, if current trends hold, would produce an electoral bonanza for Democrats and cripple Republican prospects in many states they now win easily.
and goes on to lovingly discuss the prospect.
Of course this trend has been a VDARE.com theme for years.
To my mind the important news is that Drudge — after an unusually long delay — featured it. The Drudge coverage of this round of the Amnesty war started out badly as I noted in Looks Like Treason Lobby Has Got To Drudge. It appeared suspiciously as if the site was heeding GOP Establishment preferences, as in the election.
But at the end of the day Matt Drudge is a businessman. He built his site by supplying the news his audience wants to know of. The audience is enraged by the Gang Bill as any inspection of the comment threads shows. He has competition. Beyind a certain point he has to serve his audience or risk losing them. (A similar process appears to be in operation at National Review.)
Drudge supplying the peasantry with pitchforks is actually worse news for the Treason Lobby than the discrediting of Marco Rubio.
