Bush-Appointed Black Judge Shows The Lie Of The Law In January 6 Rant

By James Kirkpatrick

Politico gleefully featured the comments of a judge screaming at a defendent from the January 6 protests.

A federal judge tore into a low-level defendant in the Capitol Riot Friday, moments after the man entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge stemming from the Jan. 6 unrest.

“You’ve disgraced this country in the eyes of the world and my inclination would be to lock you up, but since the government isn’t asking me to do that … I won’t,” U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton shouted at Fort Pierce, Fla., resident Anthony Mariotto during a video hearing. “I find it outrageous that American citizens would do what you did, so you better walk the straight and narrow, sir, you understand?”..

“I have real concerns about what you and the other people” did, said the judge, an appointee of former President George W. Bush. “It was an attack on our government, and I love my government. This government has been good to me. To see somebody destroy, or try to destroy, the Capitol is very troubling to me.”

Of course, this tongue-lashing for a misdemeanor is pathetic. It’s obscene when its contrasted to the utter failure to prosecute the far more serious crimes that occurred over the last year.

Yet the specific words used are bizarre. "I love my government" and "this government has been good to me" sound ridiculous, especially in a country founded by those who defied their government. They also defied those functionaries who, no doubt, were enjoying the fruits of serving His Britannic Majesty in the colonies. This is also coming from a Bush appointee, one of those standard "limited government" types.

While I’m sure the judge is comfortable, many Americans are not. The government will not defend America’s borders and punishes those who try to do so. Government institutions teach self-hatred to white Americans, discriminate against them, send Americans to die in pointless wars that have nothing to do with American interests, and allow people into the country who kill and maim us. No one is held accountable. If one was trying to deliberately hurt the people of the country, one couldn’t do worse than what this government does to us already.

The government has failed the people. We must obey it because if we don’t, men with guns will come to confiscate our property and imprison or kill us. Other people, it seems, don’t have to obey it. For all the money, debt and bureaucracy the government has accumulated, it’s hard to determine what it actually does except replace the existing population of the country.

So Judge Walton, please spare us these pieties. Yes, you direct a powerful system backed by lots of money and men with uniforms and guns. It’s very impressive. We're all very glad you have a job that lets you yell at powerless people while the country crumbles around us.

However, your boasts don’t bolster the System’s legitimacy. Don’t beat your chest about the great rewards the System has given you and expect us to take seriously any rhetoric about "the rule of law." Don’t brag about how you can have someone imprisoned on a whim and think we should stand in awe at the majesty of the court. With millions of illegals in this country, I find it hard to summon outrage about someone trespassing in what has become a haunt of thieves and rogues. And let’s hear nothing about having "disgraced the country." Our rulers have already done a good job of that, assuming there’s any real "country" left to disgrace.
