While researching witchcraft diversity for my VDARE.com article on that subject, I was stunned by the awful crimes committed against albinos in Tanzania in which persons involved in sorcery use albino body parts for their devilish purposes. Tanzanians (including children) who lack pigmentation therefore live in danger of being slaughtered like animals so their body parts can be used in spells and potions.
The New York Times reported Feb 17 on a Canadian albino, Baptist minister Peter Ash, who was incensed by the same sort of reports: Bid to Stop the Killing of Albinos.
Last spring, he said, he began to hear about albinos in Tanzania being murdered for their body parts. More than 40 have been killed since 2007, sometimes right in front of their families, by gangs of men who hack off legs, heads or genitals and run away with them.Rev. Ash has been stirring things up in Tanzania to embarrass the authorities into taking seriously the violence against albinos. He also has an informational and activist website, Under the Same Sun.In the last two years, rumors have spread in East Africa that potions made with albino blood, shoes made of albino skin, tendrils of albino hair woven into fishing nets and amulets with albino body parts will make people rich.
Traditional healers have told an undercover BBC reporter posing as a businesswoman that they could get her an albino corpse for $2,000.
Below, a June 2008 New York Times video report about the circumstances of Tanzanian albinos.
