CBS Radio Deliberately Misleads On Chicago Kidnap Story

We are all wearily accustomed to the mainstream media sins of omission when reporting black crime. This report from NBC’s New York affiliate is typical.
Police released disturbing video of a Bronx robbery as they search for a group of muggers shown beating and stealing from an elderly man.

The 83-year-old victim was walking near Macombs Road in University Heights on Friday night when he was approached by the group.

Video shows the muggers punching and kicking the victim to the ground and continuing to assault him as he is lying defenseless.

Police say the muggers stole the man’s wallet, which contained $240 in cash and multiple credit cards.

The 83-year-old man was taken to an area hospital to be treated. He is expected to be alright. [Group Beats up, Robs 83-Year-Old Man in Bronx, Video Shows by Natalie Pasquarella; Channle 4 NY, January 9th 2017.]

Macombs Road is in zip code 10452. The demographics of that zip code are given here.

(Although in a very confusing form. The population of 76,866 is broken out as 17,145 white, 29,395 black, 1,538 Asian, 1,998 American Indian, 393 Hawaiian, and 30,018 Other. Those break-out numbers add up to 80,487 … and I haven’t included the 51,328 listed as Hispanic, which I assume is an ethnic category embracing both black and white — and for all I know, Asian, American Indian, and Hawaiian, too. I suppose the discrepancy in totals is due to people being able to tick more than one race box, in the spirit of the old Belfast song. But what race are those 30,018 Other? Venusian? Why do I get the impression that census statistics are deliberately configured to make the demographics of our neighborhoods as hard as possible to understand?)

The victim is blobbed out on the video. Images of the assailants aren’t very clear; but from what you can see, and from the body movements, and the style of the assault — many on one — I assume, like everyone on the comment thread, that they are black. Besides, as a million or so New Yorkers muttered when the clip was shown on TV: "It must be blacks. If it was whites, they would have told us."

These sins of omission on the part of the media are, as I said, wearily familiar. I wouldn’t have bothered to record this one, except that I want to chronicle the media’s advancing in mendacity from sins of o-mission to sins of com-mission, which latter have been traditionally regarded by parents, schoolteachers, and theologians as the more heinous.

There was a flagrant example last week. Reporting on the video of the Chicago kidnapping and torture of a white man by four blacks, CBS Radio reworked the story to make it sound as though Trump supporters had assaulted a black man.

Their words, broadcast to millions (I listen to CBS Radio in my car):

The viral video of a beating and knife attack in Chicago suggests the assault had racial overtones. CBS’s Dean Reynolds tells us the victim is described as a mentally-challenged teenager.

In the video he is choked and repeatedly called the n-word. His clothes are slashed and he is terrorized with a knife. His alleged captors repeatedly reference Donald Trump. Police are holding four people in connection with the attack.

I borrowed that transcription from Thomas Lifson’s angrily scathing post over at American Thinker; Lifson took it from Mediaite.

Says Lifson: "This may be the single most despicable act of media bias I have ever encountered." I wouldn’t argue with that.
