In the Atlantic’s blog, James Fallows asks for suggestions about rules of thumb for "civility" along the lines of Michael Pollan’s rules about what food’s not to eat. (Sample: "If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t.”)
Here’s one suggestion from a reader:
"The words "traitor," "treason" and variations thereof are reserved for people actually charged with treason."
Sorry! Can’t do that. There are twenty million illegals in the country, (give or take) an actual invasion, and the people who are egging them one and assisting them are actively betraying the United States.
I had started to write actively betraying their country, but many of them don’t consider the United States of American their country, but are loyal to Mexico, and the Mexican nation, which has many outposts in American territory.

[Peter Brimelow writes: The appalling Senator John McCain was at it again last week- trying to intimidate critics of immigration policy by playing the racism card. (" Are we going to say work-authorized immigrants have to ride in the back of the bus?"-click here for audio).
Nearly ten years ago, I pointed out the answer: The riposte to the charge of racism is the charge of treason. Of course, I didn’t then realize that Bill Buckley was about to purge National Review of immigration reformers and allow the charge of racism to be made, with no opportunity of reply, against me.]
