Convicted Hezbollah Sleeper Is Lebanese Immigrant, Naturalized American Citizen, Or As The NEW YORK TIMES Puts It: "Bronx Man"

Today, Michael Cutler reports on the arrest of Hezbollah operative and genuine terror plotter Ali Kourani.

The Justice Department says

Yesterday, a jury returned a guilty verdict against Ali Kourani, a.k.a. “Ali Mohamad Kourani,” a.k.a. “Jacob Lewis,” a.k.a. “Daniel,” on all eight counts in the Indictment, which charged him with terrorism, sanctions and immigration offenses for his illicit work as an operative for Hizballah’s external attack-planning component. Kourani is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 27, 2019…

When Kourani was arrested in 2017, The New York Times said Bronx Man Accused of Casing J.F.K. Airport for Potential Hezbollah Attack, and when he was convicted, U.S. News and World Report headed their story New Yorker Convicted of Giving Material Support to Hezbollah, May 16, 2019.

It’s compulsive. As Cutler’s story makes clear, the only reason Lebanese immigrant is an American citizen is because he was told by his terrorist handlers to get naturalized.

The New York Times knew that, too, but at no time described Kourani as an "immigrant", only a "Bronx man from Lebanon" and a "32-year-old naturalized citizen from Lebanon" in spite of the fact that

Mr. Kourani said he had been recruited to join the organization in 2008, in light of his education and because he lived in the United States, the authorities said in the complaint. They said that he had told the authorities that one of his first instructions from his “handler” in Lebanon, a man called Fadi, was to obtain American citizenship as soon as possible, which he did in 2009.

What kind of immigrant was he? The kind of skilled immigrant that, apparently, Jared Kushner wants. The kind of high-tech guy that Mitt Romney was talking about wanting "staple a green card" to their diplomas.

According to U.S. News and World Report, whose "New Yorker Convicted" story also doesn’t call him an immigrant, but says that

Authorities said he came to the U.S. legally in 2003, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering in 2009 and a master’s degree in business administration in 2013.

Michael Cutler, above, notes that "Kourani received the sort of high-tech education, in the U.S., that could certainly assist him in launching terror attacks on American soil."

That’s true — maybe instead of a Green Card, we should staple a deportation notice to their diplomas.
