David Horowitz: "Guns Don’t Kill Black People, Other Blacks Do" — And Protesting Stop-And-Frisk Doesn’t Help

By Patrick Cleburne’s post Guns Don’t Murder. A (Certain Type Of) Person Murders reminded me that neoconservative David Horowitz published an article in the liberal Salon magazine with, incredibly, a much stronger title:

Guns don’t kill black people, other blacks do

The NAACP’s ludicrous idea to sue gun manufacturers is yet another attempt by the left to avoid personal responsibility for some individuals' bad behavior.

By David Horowitz

When the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People announced plans recently to file an injunctive class-action suit “to force [gun manufacturers] to distribute their product responsibly,” the NAACP president, Kweisi Mfume, noted that gun violence takes a disproportionately high toll among young black males.
According to an NAACP press release, African-American males between the ages of 15 and 24 are almost five times more likely to be injured by firearms than are white males in the same age group. “Firearm homicide has been the leading cause of death among young African-American males for nearly 30 years,” it stated.[More]

It’s popular for black leaders to blame gun stores, gun laws, the "gun industry", and so on for what they call "gun violence" and other people would call black violence.

Horowitz was talking about the NAACP’s 1999 lawsuit, but there are also things like this, from Jesse Jackson, backed up by Father Michael Pfleger, attacked a suburban gun shop:

In 2007 Pfleger and Jesse Jackson spearheaded a campaign to shut down Chuck’s Gun Shop, a firearms dealer in Riverdale, Illinois. As Jackson explained their rationale: "The suburbs have surrounded the city with these gun shops. Jobs are going out, guns are coming in." Pfleger and Jackson led weekly demonstrations in front of the store. During one particular rally in May 2007, Pfleger warned that he and his followers were prepared to "drag" the store’s owner, John Riggio, from his shop "like a rat" and "snuff" him — a slang term for murder. Pfleger then proceeded to tell the crowd that legislators who failed to support gun-control legislation should be "snuffed" as well. (Click here to listen to the audio of these remarks.) Jackson and Pfleger ignored police warnings that they would be arrested if they continued to block the store’s entrance; both were taken into custody and charged with criminal trespass to property.

The problem is that those African-American leaders who oppose guns because of the temptation they represent to blacks also oppose any attempts at crime control.

The Amsterdam News is a famous black newspaper in New York which has applauded Governor Cuomo’s recent pointless assaults on legal gun ownership in New York State. [New York leads on tough gun laws, By Herb Boyd, January 17, 2013] But they've spent years opposing stop and frisk in New York. See all 677 results of the following Google search: site:www.amsterdamnews.com Stop and Frisk.

So they don’t want to control the guns used by black criminals in New York — which would save a lot of black lives. They do want to control the guns owned by white people for self-defense … which may also save a lot of black lives, at the expense of white victims.
