Previous Emmett Till Coverage (Above Image Is From 2018)

Emmett Till was abducted and brutally murdered on this day in 1955. He was only 14.

To this day, lynching is still not considered a federal hate crime. Our country must work to confront this dark, shameful part of our nation’s history and right this wrong.

Emmett Till’s murder is one of the worst moments in our history. But let’s be clear: The racism and violence that shrouds his story still exist today. We have to keep fighting until we’ve dismantled systemic racism and white supremacy in every aspect of our economy and society.

A 14-year-old, Emmett Till was brutally murdered 65 years ago today because of his race. His killers were never brought to justice.

65 years later, we are still fighting in Congress to make lynching a federal hate crime.

We won’t stop fighting to end systemic racism in America.

Here’s my 2018 article documenting the social construction of the Emmett Till Story as such a dominant part of American history.
