How many instances are there of feminist women engaging in political violence in the name of feminism? (This would be different from leftist women accompanying their Antifa boyfriends to a donnybrook. Instead, I’m looking for violence perpetrated by one or more women, no men involved, against males for a stated feminist justification.) If the male tendency toward violence is wholly socially constructed, then feminists who have shrugged off society’s norms should be acting more like, say, Prof. Dr. Eric Clanton, bonking male chauvinists on the head with bike locks, right?
But … The historical record is thin. Suffragettes in England smashed windows as did temperance leader Carrie Nation in the US. (The female-led Prohibition movement in the US has largely been memoryholed from women’s history.)
Perhaps the most famous man to suffer violence at the hands of a feminist avenger was that red-blooded he-man Andy Warhol. Valerie Solanas, a radical feminist who had authored The SCUM Manifesto (the acronym stood for Society for Cutting Up Men), shot Warhol in 1968. Andy survived after a 5 hour operation. But fear of Solanas, who stalked him when she was out of prisons and mental hospitals remained a drag on Warhol’s life for years.
I’m sure there are other examples as well, but there don’t seem to be that many.
