As a married man, it appears I've missed out on a phenomenon known as "the manosphere" or an Internet-connected world of, depending on how you view it, jerky frat-style celebrations of the conquest of women, or a refreshingly contrary critique of the "pedestalization of women at the expense of men." Or it could be both. Or neither.
We do seem to live in a society that’s stripped men of a lot of dignity but preserved a 1940s-era shield of feminine helplessness around women, who can now do anything but play for the NFL and front-line combat — an imbalance that I think has thrown society way out of whack.
(I once had a divorce case where the man had been court-ordered to fully support his wife for years, despite there being no children (I think they were grown). He worked his tail off, she apparently did nothing. It boggled my mind that the court wouldn’t have put some kind of time limit on this — say, enough time for her to get an education and find her own work. But the law’s default position was, she’s a woman so you must support her, and you must do so forever.)
Whatever — that’s an issue for another day. I leave it to you, dear reader.
Whatever the "manosphere" is, it’s been deemed a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The so-called “manosphere” is peopled with hundreds of websites, blogs and forums dedicated to savaging feminists in particular and women, very typically American women, in general.
And everyone is laughing their pants off.
Except, notes "manosphere" target "RooshV", a feminist site called "Man Boobz".
Which the SPLC actually celebrates as a worthy counterforce to the hatred, bigotry and intolerance of … guys who are trying to get laid.
The fight for justice continues.
