Free Speech under Islamist Assault in US and UK

In the United States, we still have free speech despite the efforts of Islo-fundies to exempt their authoritarian belief system from normal criticism. One strategy has been for them to appeal to the United Nations for a worldwide anti-blasphemy law.

Haven’t all the well-paid lawyers of the Council of American Islamic Relations (who try to intimidate Americans to shut up, like the Flying Imams lawsuit etc.) informed their foreign bosses about the First Amendment? The robust exercise of free speech has a long history in America.

In fact, Al Jazeera recently explained to its politically oppressed readers how seriously America takes freedom of expression: Quran burning and US law.

Nevertheless, Koraniacs repeat the idea that burning their kill-infidels book is hate speech, which is against all legal tradition and cultural norms of this country. If the Muslims want Koran protection, they should go live among the friendly ummah in spacious sharia-land.

Of course, all the wailing is for show, to portray Islamics as the victims, even as their brothers in religion are murdering non-Muslims every day in the name of Allah.

Anyway, the Muslims of East Lansing were highly miffed because they couldn’t get an infidel arrested, prosecuted and jailed for Koran burning.

Failure to charge riles Muslims, Detroit News, September 23, 2010

Detroit — Local Muslim leaders are upset prosecutors won’t pursue charges against a man who burned a Quran outside an East Lansing mosque.

Stuart Dunnings III, prosecuting attorney in Ingham County, said Wednesday that authorities “didn’t find there was any violation of Michigan law.”

Burning a holy book, whose pages were found outside the Islamic Center of East Lansing on Sept. 11, doesn’t qualify as a hate crime, Dunnings said.

”We don’t have a hate crime. There was no threat of physical intimidation because (the man who burned the Quran) was the only one there at the time,” Dunnings said. [ … ]

A Lansing man, whose identity has not been released, told police he burned the holy book. He should face federal charges, said Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations-Michigan.

”Not to prosecute this hate crime would send a terrible message to bigots that there will be no legal repercussion against those who intimidate Muslims at their houses of worship,” Walid said.

Officials at the Islamic Center said that while they “had wished from the very beginning that the individual who burnt the Quran be forgiven,” he has hurt a lot of people.

”While this individual may not have broken any Michigan law, he has caused tremendous grief to a lot of people both locally and beyond our community,” wrote Dr. Mahmoud Mousa, president of the Islamic Society of Greater Lansing.

He said the mosque has a “Learn, Don’t Burn” campaign that gives away Qurans free to promote understanding.

”We should all promote a message of mutual respect and tolerance. If anything, this incident has strengthened the will and determination of our communities to live together in peace and harmony,” Mousa said.

”We hope this will be the message that the rest of the world learns from this unfortunate incident,” he said.

”We wish that no race, religion or community would undergo the pain that we underwent.”

Cry me a river already. I’m not crazy about book burning, even of such a nasty piece of work. But the litany of self-absorbed wailing is over the top, while Muslims spew insults and worse against Americans every day with their misogyny, the hostility of some toward American values and their endless demands for special treatment. Some are a fifth column, as shown by the truly “homegrown” jihadists like the Fort Hood mass murderer, Nidal Hasan.

By comparison, when we look across the pond, the combination of Muslim immigration plus no legal protection of free speech gets downright hazardous. A recent Koran-B-Q in Britain resulted in the arrest of several pro-West fellows.

Six UK men arrested after video of them burning Koran on 9/11 “for the boys in Afghanistan’ is posted on YouTube, Daily Mail, September 23, 2010

A gang of men have been arrested after filming themselves burning a copy of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11 — and posting it on YouTube. [ … ]

Two men were arrested on suspicion of stirring racial hatred, and have since been released on bail.

That charge could cover a wide range of behavior. Muslim immigration has led to even less freedom in Britain.
