Gabrielle Giffords Shooting

The news that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been shot in Tucson along with several others is of course tragic. Such is the levelling nature of modern information technology that anyone can weigh in and rumors fly, and I find myself agreeing with NPR’s Ken Rudin:
The Internet and the Twitterworld have been filled with speculation on why she was shot: that she was too liberal and was shot by a Tea Party conservative. Or that she was too moderate and shot by someone on the left.

All we know is that the shooter is under custody. No statement has been released, no motive revealed. Self-anointed "journalists" should keep such opinions to themselves until we know more.

Reportedly, this has not stopped Gifford’s father from blaming the Tea Parties. But also I see the New York Daily News claims that

The Congresswoman was known for cracking down on illegal immigration, urging deployment of the National Guard and new technology to protect the Arizona border.

That was not our impression of Gabrielle Giffords. But we shall see. More importantly, we wish her and all the victims well.
