As a result of recent Mexican Supreme Court rulings, same-sex marriage now has a stronger legal basis in Mexico than in the United States. Although currently gay marriages can only be performed in the Federal District (Mexico City), the Mexican Supreme Court said all Mexican states must recognize them.
Mexico City was the first entity in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage. Last month, the Argentine senate followed suit by legalizing it in the entire country of Argentina.
