The bad news is that that’s still well above any year in this century before George Floyd’s death. Homicides went up 30% in 2020, then another 5% in 2021. My January 4, 2023 article summarizing end-of-year articles in local newspapers roughly estimated a 5% decline in 2022, or back to 2020.
The media has really shut up over the least year or so about George Floyd and the Racial Reckoning in order to protect the Biden Administration and deflect blame from those responsible. But the good side of this is that at least they aren’t stoking as much violence as they did in 2020-21.
