By a happy chance, Peter Brimelow’s birthright citizenship blog today, discussing RICO lawyer Howard Foster’s analysis of the matter, coincides with a flurry of news recalling one of Howard’s early triumphs, the Zirkle Fruit case.

Israeli nabbed in 'largest human trafficking case in U.S. history' by Natasha Mozgovaya HAARETZ.com 04.09.10 is not directly about Zirkle, but about the gangmastering outfit which was subsequently detected to be trying to supply the fruit company with cheap labor through a visa loophole.

Founder Mordecai "Motty" Orian seems now to have hit the Big Time

Six recruiters were accused Thursday of luring 400 laborers from Thailand to the United States and forcing them to work, according to a federal indictment that the FBI called the largest human-trafficking case ever charged in U.S. history.
The indictment alleges that the scheme was orchestrated by four employees of labor recruiting company Global Horizons Manpower Inc. and two Thailand-based recruiters. It said the recruiters lured the workers with false promises of lucrative jobs, then confiscated their passports, failed to honor their employment contracts and threatened to deport them.
Israeli national and Global Horizons CEO Mordechai Orian, 45, has been charged with leading the conspiracy …
They face maximum sentences ranging from five years to 70 years in prison, according to the Department of Justice.

Back in 2006, the Global Horizons website had a set of pictures (now removed) featuring Orian socializing with prominent Republicans. I quoted the Yakima Herald.

No wonder those Bush Amnesty Bills kept coming!

Yesterday The New York Times got into the act which an editorial which expounded on the evils of the case and applauded — the Obama Administration for using this type of abuse to issue more visas.

The Obama administration has taken a somewhat stronger line in protecting workers … The government has been issuing special visas to workers who were victims of trafficking, notably in the case of Indian workers exploited in Mississippi shipyards after Hurricane Katrina.

What is needed, of course, is enforcement, higher wages, and mechanization. Any kind of guest workers program without fixing the Birthright Citizenship loophole is just national suicide.
