The Haitian-American suspect in the murder of his whole family, mentioned by Peter Brimelow below, has apparently confessed to Haitian authorities that he did it:
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Mesac Damas told a Naples Daily News reporter he killed his family."I did it," Damas said in a jail interview in Haiti on Tuesday evening.
Damas was charged with six counts of first-degree pre-meditated murder on Tuesday in the deaths of Guerline Dieu Damas, 32, and children: Michzach, 9; Marven, 6; Maven, 5; Megan, 3; and Morgan, 11 months.
Earlier in the day the Daily News reported that Damas also confessed to a high-ranking police official in Haiti.
The North Naples man admitted killing his five children and wife last week, according to Frantz Thermilus, the director of the Judicial Police in Haiti.
Damas, 33, claimed the “evil thing” overcame him, Thermilus told the Daily News. … Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said his agency has asked Haitian authorities to extradite Damas, and that they have two ways to proceed: through the normal extradition process under a treaty in place between the two countries since 1904, or by deporting Damas, since he is a U.S. citizen.[Exclusive Daily News interview: Mesac Damas confesses to killing family, By STEVEN BEARDSLEY, Naplesnews.com, Posted September 22, 2009 at 3:40 p.m.]
Deportation in Haiti must be a lot faster than it is in America.
Still not stated is whether he Damas was an immigrant or not. He could be a Haitian-American immigrant, who failed somehow to assimilate to American norms of not killing your whole family, or he could be a second-generation Haitian-American, a member of Naples, Florida’s vibrant Haitian-American community, who in spite of an American education, failed to get the thing about "not killing your whole family," that most Americans subscribe to.
For a previous example, see the case of Kerby Revelus, who killed two of his sisters, decapitating one of them, and put a third in the hospital.
