09/29/2011
Today, September 29 is Michaelmas, the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, both in my wife’s Roman Catholic church and in my own profoundly troubled Episcopal Church.
It is also Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, lavishly celebrated by fashionable MSM outlets, for example The Daily Beast here. I didn’t see any similar Beast celebration of last Christmas, although it did link to an article on Black Saints in Western Christmas Art and to another, on Christmas Eve, which it headed Is Santa a Gay Couple in Chelsea?
It has become a multicultural must to step on Christmas by never mentioning it except in connection with other "holidays", notably Hanukkah, aptly described by American Heritage's Frederic Schwarz (December 2000) as the "Jewish Kwanzaa". But the MSM occasionally neglects to provide the nearest Saint’s day in the Christian calendar to each year’s Rosh Hashanah and Passover — there are a lot of saints! — so it has become a VDARE.com service to provide it.
This year, Rosh Hashana began at sunset on September 28 (Feast of Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton and Margery Kemp for Anglicans or St. Lorenzo Ruiz for Roman Catholics) and ends on September 30 (St. Jerome for both).
Regardless, VDARE.com wished all our readers a Happy. We mean it!
