Hong Kong: A Strange Silence From Scotland’s Child

One blessing of the Computer Age is the number of news ways we now have to display quantitative data. This “heat map” of interest in the Scottish referendum is very cute.

I am mildly surprised that the referendum hasn’t aroused more interest in Hong Kong, which was founded by Scotsmen. As late as the 1980s historian Jan Morris was describing Hong Kong as “a Sino-Caledonian condominium.”

Perhaps the general topic of secession is a wee bit touchy over there …
