In a disgraceful move, the National Jewish Democratic Council which bills itself as… the trusted voice and resource for Democratic office holders, candidates and party organizations to better understand and engage with the Jewish communityhas launched a campaign to pressure Creators Syndicate, which distributes Pat Buchanan’s column, to
pull down Buchanan’s latest column from your website and stop publishing his over-the-top, conspiratorial screeds
Jewish Dems petition: Drop Buchanan as columnist JTA.org May18 2010
They cite in particular Are Liberals Anti-Wasp May 13 2010 in which Pat noted (correctly) that five of the last seven Justices nominated by Democratic Presidents since JFK have been Jewish. He wrote:
Not in living memory has a Democratic president nominated an Irish, Italian or Polish Catholic, though these ethnic communities once gave the party its greatest victories in the cities and states of the North. And not in nearly half a century has a Democratic president nominated a white Protestant or white Catholic man or woman. This of course is a perfect demonstration of why America as a whole has to be concerned the a third of the Supreme Court (as a practical matter the paramount legislative arm) might be Jewish — and I believe most likely a majority if Obama gets a second term.
As Kevin MacDonald wrote in The Hate Crime Preventions Bill: Why Do Jewish Organizations Support It?
… There was little history of free speech within traditional Jewish societies. Historically, Israel Shahak and Norton Mezvinsky point out, rabbis and other elite members of the Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities had extraordinary power over other Jews — literally the power of life and death. And they were highly intolerant. Jews accused of heretical religious views were beaten or murdered. Their books were burned or buried in cemeteries. When a heretic died, his body was beaten by a special burial committee, placed in a cart filled with dung, and deposited outside the Jewish cemetery. That is why the Westminster Parliamentary tradition that the Founders brought to this country did not develop in the authoritarian culture of the Shtetl. This repressive tradition continues.
President Obama should draw on his African heritage, set an example, and demand the NJDC drop this scandalous initiative. Black Africa has its problems, but it does have the Indaba tradition as well. He should tell the NDJC to try debate rather than repression. Maybe the African tradition will carry weight. The American tradition clearly does not.
