It’s not just politicians who Hispander. Check out this incoherent example from Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones:
The Dallas Cowboys’ enormous fan base includes a large portion of Hispanic and Latino supporters.
And because of this, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says Tony Romo is the perfect quarterback to lead the franchise.“We couldn’t have a better quarterback,” Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “We just couldn’t. Bill Parcells and I thought he was Italian. Then we found out that his grandparents were from Mexico. We couldn’t have a better quarterback with a background of Hispanic for the Dallas Cowboys.”
So Jones didn’t even know Romo was of Mexican ancestry until he did find out about it, and then it was suddenly Very Important?
Jones’ answer came after he was asked why Romo was recently ranked the seventh most-disliked NFL Player. Jones says some of that feeling comes from the relevancy of Romo. “You got to be relevant,” Jones said. “He’s very relevant. Then when that relevancy does not fit each of our idea of what he ought to be doing, where he ought to be, his success. It’s about expectation.
Huh?
“I don’t think Tony, from the standpoint of personality, I don’t think Tony in any way has something inordinate enough to grate on people.”
What?
