Joe Carr and Lamar Alexander

Patriotic forces are coalescing behind candidate Joe Carr in his challenge to Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander. Carr was backed by Laura Ingraham at a "packed" rally in Nashville, solidifying his backing by the Tea Party. [Laura Ingraham plugs Joe Carr with Nashville rally, by Chas Sisk, The Tennessean, July 23, 2014] Carr also won the endorsement of Sarah Palin, who is increasingly defining herself by the immigration issue and her willingness to talk about issues like impeachment. However, Lamar Alexander caught a break today, as the other candidate in the race attacked Joe Carr.

Republican U.S. Senate hopeful George Flinn is now aiming his fire at state Rep. Joe Carr, R-Lascasas, the other challenger to Sen. Lamar Alexander in the GOP primary election.

Flinn says in a new release issued this morning that like Alexander, Carr has a "history of flip-flopping on important issues, dodging key votes, and being involved in backdoor deals that don’t benefit Tennesseans but himself."

“Every voter should demand transparency from candidates and research their records before voting," Flinn says of Carr, a favorite of many in-state Tea Party groups.

One of the issues mentioned in Flinn’s challenge is the accusation that Carr "dodged" a vote on granting in-state tuition to illegals in TN. However, even the Times Free Press admit that Carr "championed anti-illegal immigration measures" as a state legislator.

Unfortunately for Carr, there is no runoff election and Carr must defeat Lamar Alexander outright in order to win the primary. Taking on an incumbent Senator is hard enough — but taking on an incumbent Senator and fending off a challenge to your own right may prove impossible unless immigration patriots can persuade Flinn to back down for the greater good.

Just as Republicans helped get Ralph Nader on the ballot to help elect George W. Bush, the real beneficiary here is Lamar Alexander.
