In this week’s broadcast I opine on the deal struck this week between our Secretary of State John Kerry and the President of Afghanistan, Hamid [ker-ching!] Karzai:
The deal still has to be approved by some council of chief goat-herders, but a little walk-around money from Karzai should take care of that. Then, once the foul thing is ratified, this futile war, this war about nothing, will be all set to go on for another ten years. That’ll be 23 years altogether since we first went in. Twenty-three years. It doesn’t compare with the Thirty Years War or the Hundred Years War; but hey, come 2024, President Chelsea Clinton or El Presidente George P. Bush will no doubt have the option to extend the agreement for another decade or two.

Incidentally, apropos those golliwogs, the link in yesterday’s post to the page selling a golliwog book with "what must surely be the most politically incorrect jacket illustration ever" now links to an empty page. Either the website got the willies and scrubbed it, or someone purchased the only copy of the book, which was the 1971 Fontana edition of an Agatha Christie bestseller. There are plenty of copies available on Abebooks.com at very reasonable prices.
