Machete’s "Edgy" Message

So, Newsday and then the Arizona Republic published a review that characterized a trailer for the Mexploitation movie Machete as "gritty" and "edgy".

On May 5, Rodriguez, who is of Hispanic descent (as are cast members Cheech Marin, Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba), released a new trailer in which Trejo growls, "This is Machete with a special Cinco de Mayo message — to Arizona!" That’s been enough to grab headlines during a time of heated public debate over a touchy issue. The other media generator is Lindsay Lohan, seen in the trailer licking a gun. "Judging by the trailer, 'Machete' looks edgy", by Rafer Guzman, AZR, May. 20, 2010

Edgy is an odd term for a movie that romanticizes a bunch of Mexican thugs with big swords who are sending Arizona a message by hacking them to death and by executing politicians (who are white and support tougher immigration enforcement) with huge automatic weapons. So, liberal newspapers think the movie is just a big joke: ha!ha! funny! funny! Watch the trailer here: Machete. It seems that Alex Jones is the only one in the media that understands the seriousness of the trailer and why it could spark massive violence — and not just in Arizona. Of course everyone in the mainstream media insults Alex Jones and says he is a conspiracy nut. Be sure to watch his video reports on Machete from Prisonplanet.

Worst of all, Robert Rodriguez’ incendiary race film “Machete” was made, in part, with help from tax incentives and location access provided by the Texas Film Commission, a division of Governor Rick Perry’s Office. I decided to check Alex Jones' claim about the film being subsidized by Texas because it sounded very far fetched. Of course Alex Jones is always right when you check him out, and unfortunately this sad piece of evidence confirms he is right again. This paragraph is from the Texas Film Commission, office of Texas Governor Rick Perry:

Texas Film Commission Director BOB HUDGINS joins us for a conversation and Q&A, during which he'll give us an update on production in Texas and our new and improved incentives program for film, tv, commercial and video game makers — who should definitely attend! Thus far, the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program has helped bring films like Machete, Predators and True Grit to Texas, along with television series like Friday Night Lights, The Deep End and Code 58, as well as numerous video game and commercial productions. In fact, after our legislation (HB 873) was signed last April, the program awarded over $22 million in production incentives through 2009, generating $184.5 million in Texas production spending and nearly 11,000 Texas cast and crew jobs by year’s end. Don’t miss your chance to hear the latest from Bob on how we're doing so far in 2010, and what’s on the horizon this year.
