Mexico and the Super Bowl

When I was living in Mexico I discovered that there were many fans of NFL football. In fact, there are calculated to be about 20 million NFL fans in the country. There are also college and high school teams of the sport that Mexicans call f??tbol americano to distinguish it from f??tbol, which we call soccer.

My latest column on the Mexidata.info website is Mexican Fans, F??tbol Americano & the Super Bowl. The Pittsburgh Steelers, by the way, are the most popular team in Mexico, followed by the Dallas Cowboys. The Green Bay Packers are among the Top Ten favorite teams.

There’s a National Question angle to all this. Being an NFL fan is no longer proof of being an assimilated American, since now millions of Mexicans are NFL fans . Just something to keep in mind.
