Via the indefatigable and indispensable One Old Vet blog:Another Wall Blocks Route to U.S. By Danilo Valladares Inter Press Service News Agency Sep 15, 2010
…the southern Mexican state of Chiapas is building a wall along the border river Suchiate, similar to the one the United States is building along its southern border with Mexico…thousands of Central and South Americans cross the river in their attempts to reach the United States in search of opportunity — and without the required documents….The head of customs for Mexico’s tax administration, Raúl Díaz, says the wall is intended in the first instance to stop goods smuggling — but admitsSome 500,000 migrants cross Mexican territory without permission each year, according to Mexico’s National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH).
“It could also prevent the free passage of illegal immigrants,”The open borders types in Mexico and the neighbor involved, Guatemala, ( a native of which apparently caused the recent Los Angeles riots) are of course outraged, and draw the obvious comparison:
“The dramatic increase in the cost of 'polleros' (human traffickers) and the corruption of the authorities is the result of the walls the United States plans to build and has built along the border. We can transpose the Guatemala case to this situation and the results will be the same,” Catholic priest Francisco Pellizari, of the Casa del Migrante (Migrant House), told IPS.VDARE.com thinks that Americans should be outraged that successive US Administrations have not ignored Mexico’s hypocritical protests and followed Israel’s example in building a border fence that works. As Peter Brimelow has said
There are 50,000 miles of interstates in this country, 3,000 miles of southern border. It’s madness to suppose that Americans couldn’t seal the southern border if they put their mind to it. There were less than 10,000 people in the border patrol at any one point on the border. There are 135,000 men in Iraq. The disproportionality is extraordinary. If the American government wants to seal the border, it can do it.The problem is, the American Government has been on the wrong side.
