Nameless in Nickeas’ Chicago: Unnamed “Someones” Shot by Unnamed “Someones” from Unnamed Gangs, and Driven to the Hospital by Unnamed “Someones”

I find that the Chicago Tribune’s Peter Nickeas cannot be trusted with the weekend Hit Parade reports. The only information he provides is where a shooting went down, and what body parts were hit. His stories are so bare-bones, and his titles so repetitious, that I often think I’m reading the same story a second time, when it is actually a new one.

And references in his stories leave no doubt that he clearly knows much more that he refuses to report on, i.e., all the interesting information that newspaper readers seek! By contrast, the one time in recent weeks that his colleague Liam Ford co-authored the report, it was chock-full of information.

As it is, the people living in Chicago’s black neighborhoods know much more than Trib readers do about each week’s shootings. And that’s fine with editor Gerould W. Kern, who made it clear last year such matters are none of Trib readers’ business. (Maybe that’s why Ford was pulled from the weekend Hit Parade, as suddenly as he was assigned to it.) An enterprising newsman (not newsperson) could set up a series of uncensored blogs and put the already bankrupt Trib out of business.

(Several bloggers are well on their way to replacing the Trib as a source of crime news:Chicago News Report; Second City Cop; and The Incredible Crime Blog with the Unspeakable Name.)

And newspaper persons wonder that they are going out of business?

My associate, David in TN, wrote recently,

I don’t know how many times I've seen a report like this. A black male is walking down the street or standing in his yard. A car pulls up or somebody walks up, and they start shooting. The individual standing around falls dead. Nobody knows anything.

The local media pays little attention after the initial report. As I've written here, if people want to see more black victims in crime stories, this (along with killings over Kool-Aid, a woman, or whose team lost) is what you will have.

This is the reason the MSM jumped on the Trayvon story. An innocent black boy murdered while walking through a "gated community" by a "white racist" with a name like George Zimmerman. It was too good to be true, and as usually is the case, it was.

And yet, since as one of my readers, Dedicated_Dad, recently pointed out, gun ownership is illegal in Chicago, these shootings can’t possibly be happening! The stories must all have been made up!

After all, guns are banned in Chicago!

With no guns, there can be no shootings — right?

Ergo, any claims of shootings in Chicago HAVE TO BE LIES!!

In reality, since guns are totally banned, Chicago has to be the safest city in the US!

1 dead, 9 wounded in separate shootings across city

A man was killed and nine other people were wounded in shootings across the city Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, police said.

The one death was Antonio Buck, 32, of the 5400 block of South Aberdeen Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was one of two people shot about 1:30 a.m. this morning in the 5100 block of South Honore Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said.

A 29-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder in the incident and is in guarded condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

When police first responded to the scene, they found her with a gunshot wound.

Someone drove Buck from that scene to Holy Cross Hospital, where he died from a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Police spotted the vehicle carrying Buck as it sped away and tried to pull it over, but the driver kept going. It was only when they arrived at Holy Cross that police realized the driver was shuttling a man who was shot.

A 23-year-old man was shot about 6:20 a.m. Saturday on the 7900 block of South Ellis Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood, police said. He was shot in the lower back and leg. Additional details weren’t immediately available.

Another man, 23, was shot in both legs near the intersection of Clark and Division streets in the Near North neighborhood about 2:30 a.m. It’s not clear why he was shot. He "self transported" to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. He told police he heard shots and felt pain.

About 1:15 a.m., a 26-year-old man was shot on the 1400 block of South Keeler Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. He was shot in the chest and is in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Police caught two people running from the scene, both carrying guns, but it’s not clear if they're considered suspects or were just running from the gunfire.

[N.S.: LOL!] Both will likely get charged with unlawful use of weapons, police said.

About 15 minutes before that, a 19-year-old man was shot in the neck in the 4000 block of West 31st Street in the Little Village neighborhood and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was standing alone when someone shot him from the back seat of a passing SUV, police said. Someone drove him to the hospital.

[Three someones, no names. That’s a lot of “someones.”]

A 16-year-old boy was shot on the 1000 block of North Long Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood about 11 p.m. Friday, police said. Someone stepped from between two cars and shot toward the car the boy was riding in, hitting him in the lower back. The driver of the car drove to the boy to Mount Sinai Hospital, where the teen’s condition had stabilized, police said.

The [nameless] driver of the car, 22, had been wounded in a separate shooting on June 5 a block north. He was shot in the left forearm by someone [nameless] inside a passing black car while standing on the 1100 block of North Long Avenue about 2:15 p.m., police said. Both the driver and the boy shot overnight are affiliated with the same [nameless] gang, police said.

[So, what’s the gang’s name, for cryin’ out loud?!]

A [nameless] 22-year-old man was shot about a half hour before that in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, police said. He was in the parking lot of a Burger King restaurant on 95th Street about a block east of South Stony Island Avenue when someone drove up, shot him in the back, and drove away, police said. The victim tried to drive away but later parked his car and had friends drive him to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The Burger King was open at the time, police said. He was the only one wounded.

A [nameless] 33-year-old man was shot in the Gage Park neighborhood about 9:20 p.m. Friday, police said. He was standing in the 5700 block of South Richmond Street when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. A family member drove him to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. Police said they expect him to recover from his wound.

About 4:30 p.m. Friday, a 21-year-old man who affiliates with a gang [what gang?] was shot on the 6000 block of South Wabash Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood. He was riding a bicycle when someone shot at him, striking him in the arm. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and is in good condition, police said.
