Immigration is Jeff Chiesa’s first test

The New Jersey Republican, appointed to fill the seat left vacant by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, is on a sharp learning curve as the Senate takes up an ambitious legislative agenda.
Chiesa cast his first votes as a senator early Monday evening, shortly after his afternoon swearing-in. Tuesday, he had his first big test: the Gang of Eight immigration bill.
The new senator voted with the majority of Democrats and Republicans on two procedural motions to advance the immigration bill.[More]
He’s already all about bipartisanship:
“I’m less than a day in,” he said. “Everyone’s been incredibly welcoming from both sides of the aisle.”
Right! But some of them are Democrats who want you to betray your party, and others — some of your fellow Republicans — want you to betray your country.
I don’t see why he couldn’t vote against Amnesty, he’s not even running in the special election. The man who is, a fellow New Jersey Republican named Steve Lonegan
said he called Chiesa urging him to oppose the motion. “This legislation is a pure and simple amnesty for illegal aliens and if I were a member of the U.S. Senate, I would vote no,” Lonegan said in a statement.
Presumably that’s why Christie picked Chiesa, not Lonegan.
